‘YoYoFactory Europe’ was formed in 2010 with the hope of expanding the availability of yo-yos in Europe. As time went by we didn’t see the growth we hoped for and have taken distribution back into the hands of the global ‘YoYoFactory’ brand. It isn’t a failure, yo-yoing in Europe has grown steadily during this time, and with this growth we have seen more players getting involved in yoyo making an industry where once there was just a category. As the largest player owned and operated brand in the world it gives us great pleasure to work with so many other players and empower them to be part of this new industry. Vashek Kroutil and his team at SLUSNY will be an integral part of our future plans not limited to but critically enabling fulfillment and distribution. We look forward to working even closer with the dedicated retailer who are growing the yoyo scene in Europe and hope this serves as a model for other regions in the world.

This reunification make YoYofactory a single global brand again. We welcome the Europe team onto the YoYoFactory Contest Team.

We have filmed a video with John Ando every year since 2010. For this years video we had grand plans, locations schedules…. we also saw oppressive weather moving in, so we filmed everything in studio before we hot the road, just in case. 107f (42C) and blazing sun greeted us but we still put this video together. Part 2 will be a studio video

Gentry Stein, 18yo of Chico California is the 2014 World YoYo Champion defeating all comers in the premier 1A division at the World Yoyo Contest held in Prague Czech Republic. Seeded to semi finals as USA National Champion Gentry took first place in the semi finals  and again in the finals in front of a packed house at the Archa Theatre in an atmosphere more like a rock concert than a yoyo contest. Second place went to Takeshi Matsuura of Japan, 3rd Iori Yamaki of Japan and 4th to Gentrys’ teammate Paul Kerbel of Mexico.

Think the Semi Finals will be easy? They are all National champions seeded plus a potential 4 previous event winners from prelims playing a new 1:30 format.

Can you afford a mistake and make finals? Typically not.

Then it gets to finals.

Seeds: Janos as reigning Champ. Ahmad representing Asia. Carlos Europe.

Some of the qualifiers will have put a perfect 3 minutes in already on stage just to make the finals. Will they be better for that experience?

Easy right?

If you are looking to be an extreme yoyo player isn’t it logical to look for an extreme advantage in your equiptment?  YoYoFactory have long been known for offering extremes, be it micro, long spin, or new features but today we look at two serious competitor yo-yos which push the norms.

MONSTER VS HORIZON

These two yo-yos are both too big to fit in our regular package and serve a very different purpose suiting two unique styles of play. They also ironically share a lot in common.

Monster came from a time where players had only just started to ditch undersized as their preferred contest yoyo in favor of what is now known as ‘full’ sized. It offered something totally foreign. In the hand it doesn’t even feel like a yoyo but on the string. It offered easier catches and ability to perform newly popularized hop tricks with greater ease. The nay-sayers claimed it impeded tech tricks, which from our standpoint was ok, yoyo play was getting tech heavy and stagnant. This promoted the type of play we wanted to see.

In contest play John Chow stood out s the champion of the concept. His tricks took play in the direction we hoped while showing little impediment on tech. His 2011 BAC 2nd place is a great example of this.

Horizon  opens up a realm of performance possibilities with its longer than average spin and stability and as such continues to move away from tech tricks that occur in a 1ft box in front of a players chest. Paul Kerbel in the HORIZON debut video clearly shows he doesn’t play that way. while a lot of talk on horizon focuses on finger spin opportunities due to Pauls’ skills it is the power and spin that will matter most to more players.

The contrasts are easy to see when you place them both side by side

Horizon has a clear difference in diameter but the width of monster has to be seen to be believed. To emphasize it where is a 2 by 2 comparison

Drastically different in specs and appearance it can be said that both HORIZON and MONSTER are cut from the same cloth. They push yoyo in a bigger and more visual way while still allowing the tech intricacies that appeal to many players. If you get a chance to try either we hope you do so. It just might change the way you play.
