Gentry Stein, 18yo of Chico California is the 2014 World YoYo Champion defeating all comers in the premier 1A division at the World Yoyo Contest held in Prague Czech Republic. Seeded to semi finals as USA National Champion Gentry took first place in the semi finals  and again in the finals in front of a packed house at the Archa Theatre in an atmosphere more like a rock concert than a yoyo contest. Second place went to Takeshi Matsuura of Japan, 3rd Iori Yamaki of Japan and 4th to Gentrys’ teammate Paul Kerbel of Mexico.

To say Gentry Stein has worked hard for this National title is an understatement. He has risen through the ranks of competitive yo-yoing in short order. He’s had his share of successes and failures. He’s dismissed the haters and showed what determination really means. As a local from Chico, this win makes it all the sweeter. In front of friends, family, Factory and fans he took home top honors and after years of being so close, finally captured the US National Champion title. Congratulations Gentry, from all of us at YoYoFactory.

Gentry Stein has not done it all. He doesn’t have a room full of trophies. He doesn’t have a National title. This is what keeps him the hungriest, most committed yoyo player on the planet. His tricks and freestyles are on point, with undoubtable style. His day just hasn’t come yet…but when it does, he will be ready.

Introducing the Shutter, Gentry’s third signature release designed specifically to be there when his day comes. Designed from the ground up, the Shutter features an inner foil designed to achieve a weight distribution that offers power, speed, and control through long technical combinations and flashy performances. It also offers unique finger spin opportunities on both inner faces as well as a central and outer ring grind capabilities.
It takes more than a great yoyo to be a champion, but a great yo-yo is something every champion needs.

Yo-Yo is one of the most evolving sports in the world. Things move so fast that the competitors are defining the rules. In an unprecedented turn of events, the 2013 Bay Area Classic was host to the first tie in a freestyle division. Watching both Gentry and Luis, you’d be hard pressed to find a definitive winner. As The World Championships gets closer, what these 2 will bring to the stage is on everyones mind.

But Gentry was ready for them. Gentry was an explosive grand finale that brought the crowd to a roar! As the results were called, there was no question, Gentry had taken his first California State title with authority. And now the world waits to see if 2013 is indeed his year. We’ll all have to wait and see…

Gentry Stein may not have placed as high as he’d wanted, considering he was the defending champion, but it wasn’t without reason. He planned to lay low at PNWR this year and save his serious stuff for California State Championships. Gentry is poised to really take the stage in 2013. Stay tuned…
